Desert Safari Trip to El Gilf El Kebir

After a morning meal, your Gilf El Kebir Safari excursion is going to get serious as we head out on your drive into perhaps Egypt’s most isolated and surreal terrain of deserts. First you will see the very dramatic Sugar loaf an arreasting formation of sandstone as well as natural arch that is just the sort of shot everybody wants for his/her photo album. Then we drive onto The Mud Lions, a desert place once part of a huge ancient lake and shaped over time by thousands of years of wind and rain erosion to make awesome rock formations that look like lions and various other animals.
Tonight you will have your dinner around a campfire, watching one of the world’s clearest skies.

8:00 AM Wake up to a spectacular desert sunrise, ready to embark on another day of thrilling exploration in your 4x4. Enjoy a ride through giant dunes, pass through the amazing Wadi Mashi and drive into the core of Gilf El Kebir National Park. You’ll be astonished by the sight of vertical cliffs, huge rock formations and spectacular desert panoramas, unlike anything seen in Egypt before. Later drive to Wadi Assib and pitch your tent amid a pure desert. Enjoy a homemade Bedouin meal under the shining stars.

Our route takes you today via the stunning Aqaba Pass, with its awesome panoramas over the western flanks of the Gilf El Kebir range. We visit the truly magnificent and internationally known Swimmer's Cave in Wadi Sura, (Valley of Pictures), among the best archeological findings in the whole Sahara. We enter the cave and view its well over a thousand primitive rock paintings, among them the striking depictions of swimmers from possibly over 8,000 years ago, when this area was underwater with grassland and flora.
We carry on to explore the outstanding new find called Mestekawi Cave, found in 2002, that contains other pristine, very well- preserved, rock art of our Sahara ancients.
We shall spend tonight camping in Wadi Sura where we shall experience the Bedouin way of life under an ocean of stars.

We’ll go by jeep to the attractive Wadi Abd El Malik after breakfast where you will spend some hours in one of the most stunning desert’s valleys in the west of Egypt. This area is famous by its antique acacia trees and amazing desert panorama. Take nice photos with the ancient trees, enjoy the serenity of the western desert, and finally we will drink Bedouin tea then enjoy the wonderful dinner and spent our second night under the stars.

After your desert safari lunch head to the other side of the western desert where one of the most fascinating parts of the Sahara – the great Silica Glass Area is located. This unique area was created an estimated 26 million years ago with yellow and green silica glass shards spread out around. Although researchers continue to debate how this amazing site was made it remains one of the most interesting places in Egypt for geologists.
After your Silica Glass Area exploration head to the camp and get ready for another amazing evening where you get to experience real Bedouin hospitality!

Wake to a nice breakfast before we proceed to Ain Dalla, a tranquil natural spring which is shaded with date palms located right in the middle of nowhere! Recline and enjoy your swim in the hot waters of the spring that contains valuable minerals, soak in the tranquil ambience or immerse yourself in the solitude that the Western Desert provides. Spend your last night on tour with a camp-out at the spring, sharing stories over Bedouin tea and a delicious traditional dinner beneath the desert stars.
